CFO Houston

About CFO Houston

Why this site exists

You are on cfohouston.com, and it exists for one kind of reader. Houston owners looking for a CFO usually find firms that talk about the year that just ended. This site is about the year ahead, and about the swings in it. If your sales climb with the Rodeo, slip with oil prices or stop for a week when a storm comes up the Gulf, the useful question is how to plan cash before the next one arrives.

Portrait of Steven Palmieri, Tax CFO

The people behind cfohouston.com

Steven Palmieri works as a Tax CFO, which the practice calls the Entrepreneur's CFO, with owners who run their own businesses. Steven and his team are the practice behind this site, in Dallas, Texas, and they work with Houston owners remotely, by video, with shared books and a calendar link. We say that plainly because it is true, and because we are all Texans. The Comptroller, the franchise report in May and the Central Time deadlines are the same ones we keep for ourselves.

A Tax CFO keeps the books, prepares the return and helps the owner decide the year before it ends. That means a closed month, a view of cash for the months ahead and a plan for the taxes that will come out of the bank.

Meet the practice

What the site is for

This site is for owners whose year does not move in a straight line. A supplier that sells to the energy companies. An importer waiting on a ship. A restaurant, a contractor or a shop that has learned what a heavy rain does to a week of sales. Each page takes one of those moments and shows how a cash plan handles it. We try to write in plain words, because money decisions are hard enough without jargon.

CFO Houston is the name we use for this work with Houston owners. It is a name for a way of working, and it carries no office on a Houston street. The pages explain how a fractional CFO helps, how to plan for storm season, what to do when prices move your orders, how to size a reserve and which taxes come out of the bank. If you are curious how the arrangement works from a distance, the page on working with a Dallas practice from Houston takes it step by step.

What this site is not

It does not replace a licensed firm when a lender, a bond company or a contract asks for audited or reviewed statements. The line has one home on this site, the page on what we handle and what needs a licensed firm. It also does not promise you a result, a price or a savings figure, because those depend on your books and we only quote after we have seen them.

Questions and the next step

Many owners start with the common questions, which are answered on the questions page. Others prefer to talk. The first call is a free Second Look call, a video call with the Steven Palmieri practice, with nothing to sign and nothing to pay. We look at how your year moves and what the next six months need.
